Valencia Renee’ -Girl on The Go: Jake’s Soul Food Cafe

by Valencia Renee’

There is nothing like a touch of spice on a cold dreary day.  After a long day of shopping this Christmas season, I discovered one of Hoover’s hidden gems. Nestled in a small plaza on John Hawkins Parkway, Jake’s Soul Food Café is sure to have you making regular visits to the area. The atmosphere is very inviting. The music is playing over the speakers, the sounds of laughs can be heard from both the staff and visitors, making your meal an experience. Not to mention the friendly bartender with the most angelic voice that sang the best rendition of Happy Birthday I have heard in a while. The small dining area gives the restaurant an intimate, cozy feel.  The menu features an array of soul food with a Caribbean spin for a reasonable price.  I ordered the tilapia, which was seasoned to perfection. My guest ordered the meat loaf, which I had a chance to taste. Both dishes were great, and the portions were more than enough. As an extra bonus, you may ask to see the cook when ordering the meatloaf. I didn’t make this up! It says that on the menu. Unfortunately, she was not there when I went. I would have liked to ask her about the different flavors I tasted, which were different from your regular southern meatloaf. However, there is sure to be a next time, and a next time.  I will tell you all about it!

Until then, see you somewhere around the magic city!

Sincerely,

Valencia Renee’ -Girl on The Go!
