God’s Gift, an African-American rapper, dropped his track, Flexin’ (Hella Black), a single praising the beauty of being a black person. The track has verses like, “Coco butter on my sheets”, “Light skin but I’m hella black”, “Melanin on Fire” or “Sweet potato on the table”.

Each verse highlights not only one aspect of black culture but several. Living while black in America can mean different things for different people. Depending on what part of the country you were raised, your family traditions or even religious preferences can determine what being black means to a specific individual.

God’s Gift stated,” My brand is about embracing me and everything that is me. I speak to  what’s going on in the world from a black males perspective , I’m not here to sugar coat my message , I’m here convey through music in a way everyone can understand . I’m all about self-empowerment.”

Raised in Oakland, California, God’s Gift has been spittin’ bars since the age of 12. At the age of 19 God’s Gift started recording in the studio.

“My grandma inspires me because she was always herself , she went through a lot of tough times from cancer to being homeless and still managed to smile and joke the entire time. She is the only human being I can say I truly looked up to growing up.”, said God’s Gift.
The music video for Flexin’, directed by Opispokid, features both males and females rocking several hues of beautiful black skin. The video displays the true beauty and variety of skin covered in melanin. Flexin’ features women with huge curly fro and rich chocolate skin as well as golden skin and straight flowing hair. The message is clear, black is beautiful, no matter the shade.
