Water and Your Body!
By Tina Kay Hughes

Warning: Water is energizing and refreshing! It may give you the urge to get off the couch.
Did you know that water regulates the temperature of the human body, carries nutrients and
oxygen to cells, cushions joints, protects organs and tissues, and removes wastes from the body?
Water helps to remove toxins, foods that are broken down inside of the body, and wastes.
The fact is your body on average is 70-80% water! Let’s do a breakdown of the percentage of water
in the organs of your body; your liver is made up of 90% water, the kidney 83% water, the spleen
76% water, bones 35% water, the brain 85% water, the heart 79% water, intestines 75% water,
muscles 76% water, cells 85% water, the lungs 79% water, skin 72% water, and blood 83% water.
This breakdown shows you how much your body needs and longs for water. Water plays a role in
almost every bodily function! Approximately 75% of Americans are dehydrated to the extent that
it affects their health and vitality. The main cause of daytime fatigue is mainly due to a lack of a
sufficient amount of daily water intake.
Did you ever know or realize how important water is for you to live? Well now you do! Drink water
for your health! By Tina Kay, NAACP Health Coordinator for Alabama, www.tinakay.net
