Authentic Food & Local Cuisine

Birmingham is a city that has been picking up speed and life over the past several years. As such, you don’t need to stray far in order to enjoy a good meal. Whether you wish to stay close to town, or drive down the road a little ways, there are friendly, local restaurants that will fit your fancy. When wanting to go somewhere special, two restaurants have stood out to me.

Bottega Cafe

Coming from the Italian word for “shop”, this restaurant offers an amazing variety of food- not just Italian. Decide whether you would prefer to sit inside for dinner, or outside for something lighter. Their drinks menu is creative, and if inspired, you are encouraged to devise your own recipe. Bottega is situated along Highland Avenue, and offers ample opportunity to people watch as you soak in the atmosphere.

Gianmarco’s Restaurant

Be careful not to judge a book by its cover. Located a short drive from the hub of Birmingham, this was a place that left me confused as I pulled up. The real treat is the food that will arrive to your table indoors, however. Their penne alla vodka was scrumptious, their vegetables cooked just right, and the tiramisu was to die for. Gianmarco’s provides a much more intimate setting than the aforementioned restaurant. Due to its popularity and few tables, you ought to be patient in trying to procure a reservation.
There are many more lovely places scattered around Birmingham. But no matter where you go or what you eat, you’ll always enjoy it more with good company. If you haven’t paid either of these places a visit, please do. But be sure to do so with cheerful friends in tow, or the love of your life at your side.
