Why Rest Is So Important When You’re Unwell

We all need to log in about 8 hours each night. For a lot of people, a nap during the day is pretty useful too. We all need to get some rest on a consistent basis to live a happy and healthy life! And never is that more true than when you’re unwell. Rest is so important when you’re fighting off an illness or you’ve got an injury/surgical procedure to recover from. As we get older, it’s even more important to take care of yourself in this manner; plenty of rest can do a lot for you! Let’s dive into Why Rest Is So Important When You’re Unwell!

It’s Immune Boosting

If you don’t sleep enough, you’re going to get ill. If you’re already ill, putting off rest and relaxation will make you feel even worse, no matter how much you hate just laying around in bed!

When you’re trying to fight off a germ, you’re going to need a few more hours in your sleep schedule. And if you can’t fall asleep, it might not be so bad. Even just lying down has been found to benefit your body! While it may not have the immune boosting capabilities of actual sleep, it will refresh and energize you.

It Ensures You Don’t Over Do Things

It’s easy to push yourself too hard when you’re unwell. Your normal day to day activities could even be too much for you at a time like this, and rushing back to work or making breakfast for the kids first thing in the morning could harm you. If you commit to a proper resting schedule, this won’t be a problem.

If you’ve just been through a surgical procedure, whether medical or cosmetic, rest is the number one thing your body will need to achieve the best results. For someone undergoing the process of calf implants post-op care, keeping legs in a set position and providing a comfortable, level surface for your back and hips is key. If you don’t give yourself time to rest, you could even find yourself back in the hospital and under the knife!

Sleep Has Always Healed You

So, science still isn’t quite sure why sleep is a phenomenon. Putting yourself into a state of unconsciousness, where your brain turns off for a little while but still works away in the background – it’s a very confusing thing to try and understand!

But we do know that sleep is healing. Deep sleep, and REM sleep, specifically. In these two states, hormones are released, your body works to heal cuts and bruises, and your immune system pushes back against invaders. The more you sleep when you’re already on the backfoot, the easier it’ll be to start feeling like yourself again. Sleep is good for you – go get some!

Resting is so important when you’re not feeling right. If you’re ill, or you’ve just had a bad day, hit the hay and get a few more minutes in. You’re going to feel a lot better much sooner.
